Gateways
when a simple phrase
can change the way to see something
approached with a new light perspective, understanding, knowledge
things that appeared dense can suddenly
become transparent
a world opens up to you
jaded and restricted,
or cynical to the concept of learning
perceptive a sense of knowing
education continues
until the moment we leave this place
why do we forget such common truths?
as adults, we learn slowly or not at all
then someone turns on a switch and
the light is clear and sharp and we now
know that we can still be receptive to new ideas
without smashing our existing foundations
but a new viewpoint is shown
a fresh way to sense something
we may have believed our entire lives
existed only as we have seen it exposed
such is the gift
never too old to learn
to appreciate a clearer way of seeing
never to blind to see
a phrase as simple as removing all doorways and viewing them as gateways
no longer closed and solid but accessible and visible
could take away the fear of the unknown
of angst, and trepidation
and make what once was so concrete a perspective
one open with possibilities.
